چکیده

We have developed a model of the high-current breakdown of the integer quantum Hall effect, as measured in contactless experiments using a highly-sensitive torsion balance magnetometer. The model predicts that, for empirically “low-mobility” samples sm,75 m2 V−1 s−1d, the critical current for breakdown should decrease with, and have a linear dependence on, temperature. This prediction is verified experimentally with the addition of a low-temperature saturation of the critical current at a temperature that depends on both sample number density and filling factor. It is shown that this saturation is consistent with quasielastic inter-Landau-level scattering when the maximum electric field in the sample reaches a large enough value. In addition we show how this model can be extended to give qualitative agreement with experiments on high-mobility samples.

The effect of self-absorption correction using internal reference on determining heavy metals concentration by laser induced breakdown spectroscopy

The identification and concentration of heavy metals, which may be so harmful for the body, is determined by the method of calibration-free laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy using a special strategy. First, the plasma temperature is obtained using the Boltzmann plot. Then, a line with an inappreciable self-absorption is considered for each element as the reference. The modified intensities o...

Dependence of contact resistance on current for ohmic contacts to quantized Hall resistors

The dependence of contact resistance on current has been measured for a large number of ohmic contacts to quantized Hall resistors under quantum Hall effect conditioDS.Five different functional forms of current dependence are observed at low currents. The trend from best to worst quality can be correlated with the density of defects in the contact, regardless of the physical cause of the defect...

Nonequilibrium mesoscopic conductance fluctuations as the origin of 1/f noise in epitaxial graphene

We investigate the 1/f noise properties of epitaxial graphene devices at low temperatures as a function of temperature, current and magnetic flux density. At low currents, an exponential decay of the 1/f noise power spectral density with increasing temperature is observed that indicates mesoscopic conductance fluctuations as the origin of 1/f noise at temperatures below 50 K. At higher currents...

We have studied the temperature dependence of the integer quantum Hall transitions in the molecular crystal (TMTSF)2PF6. We find that the transition width between the quantum Hall plateaus does not exhibit the universal power-law scaling behavior of the integer quantum Hall effect observed in semiconducting devices. Instead, the slope of the ρxy risers, dρxy/dB, and the (inverse) width of the ρ...
